91看片 Scarecrow Stroll
October 2nd - October 31st
During Daily Garden Hours
Celebrate the fall season by strolling through the 91看片 Horticultural Gardens鈥 creative scarecrow collection. We've teamed up with some local garden clubs to bring you our inaugural "Scarecrow Stroll", which will consist of 10 scarecrows throughout the Gardens, each with a theme and name chosen by its creators. The staff and students will each be making one as well, of course. Come on through to see the scarecrows amidst the beautiful seasonal changes and vote for your favorite! Make sure to pick up the specially made map and brochure for this event to find the scarecrows throughout the gardens and vote through the QR code. You can vote at the link in the red button as well, once the event is live.

"Sticks" Book Signing w/ Patrick Dougherty
Saturday, October 25th
3:00pm - 5:00pm
North Carolina native, Patrick Dougherty, returns to Southern Pines on October 25th
and we will be hosting this free Saturday afternoon event in collaboration with Country
Bookshop.
Many of us had the privilege of helping to create the "What Goes Around Comes Around"
sculpture at the Gardens, which stood here from the summer of 2021 through the spring
of 2024.
Patrick's newest book, "Sticks" will be available for purchase and autograph.
"Sticks" features sixteen of Dougherty's projects from across the US, all exquisitely photographed in black and white by James Florio. This volume includes an essay by poet Kate Farrell and a conversation between Florio and Dougherty, moderated by Jean McLaughlin, that delves into some of the questions at the heart of the book: What does it mean to be a site-specific sculptor whose work is experienced most often through images?
As an added treat, Patrick's son Sam will be on site selling his wood-fired pottery.
Sam Dougherty is a North Carolina Potter focused on making functional handcrafted
pottery and dinnerware. After graduating from Warren Wilson College and seven years
working alongside his father, sculptor Patrick Dougherty, he began a full-time vocation
as a studio potter.

Tea in the 91看片: How to Grow, Harvest and Brew
Friday, November 7th
1:00pm
Join us for a unique presentation by John Bowman all about tea! This presentation will identify the many different teas there are today, noting that all teas (green, white, oolong, yellow, black and pu-erh) come from the same tea bush 鈥 Camellia sinensis. Because of our climate, well drained and acid soils, this evergreen shrub is ideally suited to growing here in the 91看片. A distinction will be made between tea and herbal infusions, and some examples of how tea is harvested and processed will be shown. Finally we will examine techniques for brewing the very best tasting tea with an accompanying tea brewing guide to take home.

Santa in the Gardens
Sunday, November 30th
12:00pm - 4:00pm
Santa and Mrs. Claus are coming to the Gardens again this year for our annual Santa in the Gardens event! Especially created for children and families, it will be an afternoon full of holiday fun and activities, including making reindeer food, writing letters to Santa, and learning about plants. Your little one may want to get their face painted, complete a scavenger hunt, or try making a simple holiday craft to take home with them. Cookies-n-Moore will also be on-site with a free cookie and beverage for each child!
New this year...Santa and Mrs. Claus will have their very own tent for visitation and photos. We have teamed up with a local photographer, too, who will be offering professional digital photos for those who are interested. You must register and pay for the professional photographer service ahead of time, so please check the appropriate ticket when registering.
As always, we will be collecting canned and non-perishable goods to donate to our 91看片 Campus food pantry. Any contributions you can make to that will be very much appreciated!
